Denver Cooperative Preschool's (DCP) parent-toddler class is a great way for children to socialize with peers and gain independence while having the comfort of a parent near by. Separation from the parent is gently introduced and gives parents the opportunity to meet for discussions on child development issues, educational topics and other relevant parenting topics, as well as to socialize.
Children's activities, art projects and songs are often tied to an open-ended theme. The kitchen, dress-up area, sand and water tables are all mainstays for the classroom in addition to a variety of toys. Children find a new selection of things to explore during each class, while being able to continue to play with their favorites.
By the end of the year, children become familiar with and participate in class routines, engage in purposeful play and create a play routine for their day at school. They become comfortable with other adults caring for them and gain enjoyment from the group setting. Independence grows and social skills begin to develop.
