Meet Jamie Whetstone

The governing board at Denver Cooperative Preschool (DCP) employs a director who administers the total preschool program in cooperation with the board. Our director is Jamie Whetstone.

"I feel very fortunate to be the Executive Director of Denver Cooperative Preschool. I have been involved in various educational and early childhood offerings for nearly twenty years. I am a graduate of Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame and have attended several other colleges and universities to further my education. Professionally, my experience directing schools, teaching kindergarten and preschool and implementing parent education programming will enable me to work with our families, staff and community to provide an amazing preschool experience.

"I believe that children need a learning environment that is nurturing, safe and allows for exploration – endless exploration!  Such an environment provides for spontaneous and planned activities that make for a remarkable foundation for life long learning. Secondly, lots of attention from caring adults can make all of the difference in the attitudes that children create about the learning process.  Cooperative preschools provide just that, a highly professional and dedicated staff working together with the community and adult family members of the children it serves. And finally, that all of the caring adults embrace the philosophy of play based learning.  Truly, there is no substitute for the developmentally appropriate practice of preschool children learning at their own pace through the natural process of play. Over time, this vital process empowers each child to reach his or her full potential cognitively, socially, physically and emotionally."

Jamie would love to assist you in your search for a preschool. Please contact her with any questions at 303-777-6867 or jamie@dcpplay.org.
